Utah First's story began with ten German immigrants in Salt Lake City. They wanted a safe place to put their money and, as no local bank would give them financing, they wanted an institution that would provide loans to bring their families to America. In 1935, the Utah German American Federal Credit Union was formed. The credit union changed its name to Utah First Federal Credit Union in 1996, clarifying who it is we serve – Utahns.Our founders esteemed value and equality. They did not like being treated poorly by the big local banks, so they made sure this credit union was built on real value and that its focus was on building the financial future of all those who passed through its doors.
